When Modern Retro Meets True Retro in the Bedroom.....

You all know I op shop, car boot and all around treasure hunt, a lot. You all know I love my vintage and retro finds and even when it comes to modern day items, I tend to try and thrift it first before looking for it retail.

One of the things that has been on my list to purchase has been a doona cover (others might call it quilt cover). The tricky thing is I've been looking for a king sized one. I don't know about you, and where you op shop but king size sets are near on impossible to find. Let alone it be something that appeals to my vintage loving retro aesthetics, because the reality is there were no king size beds thirty odd years ago. So limited the search down king size and it appealing to my retro tastes is a bit of an ask.

But when you have got gorgeous friends like I do there are always extra eyes out looking for you. I received I picture text message the other week and I instantly got excited. Strings got pulled and it was put away for me until I could get into the shop.

Now I have a fabulous doona cover that has a bit of retro appeal to it and that compliments my FABULOUS green true retro blanket. What's more is that Master V loves it too and we're now more excited to see how our bedroom comes together when the painting is finished and feature wall done. If ever we can get around to more painting at present, life is just so busy.....we'll get there though.

Yes large vintage sheets are hard to come by, actually all vintage sheets are getting rarer in the oppies these days.
The doona cover is pretty and so your style.

Wow! What a fantastic score. I agree with you, the larger bed spreads are much harder to come by, particularly nice ones like this. Well done!

Love the quilt cover, Trudie and I can only imagine how hard it is for you to find something king sized, as I have enough trouble finding things in Queen! xx

Well no surprise that I like this combo. The quilt cover works so well with the bedspread. I still might sneak into your house one day & steal that for myself! How was the big Lifeline sale this weekend? Xx

I've been very lucky to nab several double sheets over time. But you rarely find anything beyond that, these days.

I guess they're harder to come by because for one brand new retail king covers can be well over $100, so perhaps people hold on to them, alternatively if they do make it to the op shops they're nabbed up so quickly I never see them and I op shop a lot lol.

Awww Kermie. Well I do love my green and I thought hubby would think this was an overload but thankfully not. Now I'm on the hunt for lamps for when the painting is done and the brown feature wall behind is done.

Queen is even tricky.
Confession though our bed is a queen but we have a king doona because hubby and I fight over the covers too much lol.

*makes mental note of those who have joked of stealing from her* lol.
The lifeline sale was a bit of fun. Certainly not much in the way of vintage frocks etc. I nabbed one which I think was just overlooked by hipsters. It's funny today further confirmed how the GC vintage thing in fashion is a totally different thing here. I picked up a quirky modern maxi for myself and a light coloured denim vest (because everyone needs a dark coloured one and a light coloured one). I nabbed several old children's knits etc and a groovy pair of long pants for Little V. I think she'll have her own "what she wore" post to show them off.

That is a really lovely quilt cover! (I can't bring myself to say doona, it makes me laugh!) G and I are really picky about our bed linen, it takes us ages to find something we like! It IS a shame that one can't get retro ones to fit.
Indeed, yes, I paid excess baggage to bring all those goodies home from Melbourne!I was able to do it online, quite reasonably, thankfully. And YES, I do need some large buttons for my coat! I thought I would have some in my stash, but no. I'll measure up the size required!
