I couldn't help but want to share the clip, there is simply not I thing I don't like about looking back at that time. The fashion, lifestyle, cars, scenery, buildings and the people. When I was growing up you could still see pockets of the Coast that had this vibe. In fact as a child I spent time visiting relatives staying on the Coast at some of the motels featured in the clip.
Nowadays on the Gold Coast there is still that relaxed vibe mixed with a bustling night life. Very few traces of buildings and venues remain that are reflective of times shown in the first clip or the traces I remember when growing up. However the beaches and hinterland remain of course, and one can still capture that feeling of freedom in weather that's pretty darn nice all year around. Yes I know I say it's gold here when it's winter but it's true for us Queenslanders it's freezing in Winter.
I had a look on YouTube at various clips from tourism outlets and tried to find a most recent clip that I thought would give a good sense of how different things are now but showed both the beaches and hinterland. The clip below although not an official clip from Queensland Tourism will still give a good idea to the contrast these days, it shows a bit of everything.
I grew up living only about a ten minute drive from the beach, I'm a fisherman's daughter so a lot of time was spent in the salt air. These days however with my own family we live closer to the hinterland not far from the base of of the mountains and hinterland you see towards the end of the second clip right in the background. It takes us about half an hour now to get to the beach. I like where I live now with my family and it being further out, it's a gateway out to the older rural suburbs and in inland western communities where the further you travel the more traces of times gone by you see. Not to mention the op shopping in smaller rural suburbs and communities.
So there you have it a bit of a visual of where I live. If I could bring the two different times shown in these clips together it would be wonderful. But that's my vintage longing heart always wanting to capture those times, fashions, decor and more from times gone by.
I'd love to hear about where you live and how your city has changed over the years?
